Order, Mr President!

The European Parliament has elected its new president today. As a matter of tradition a candidate from each of the two biggest parliamentary groups  (EEP and S&D) is nominated for half a parliamentary period respectively. After two and a half years under the Pole Jerzy Buzek the role has now gone to Martin Schulz, a German social democrat. Interestingly enough, one incident that Schulz is well known for is at the same time a shining example of the grotestque debating style in the EP. Why would anyone read out laws and paragraphs amidst a hot tempered discussion? Let’s hope that Martin Schulz handles things somewhat more firmly, so that european debates become less tiring. See for yourself.
